This is the perfect matte, seriously.
I have really been looking forward to the Orly Metallic Matte collection, it seems like a great concept. And Glam Rock is kind of awesome, just as I hoped. I love shimmery mattes! I think it applied better than any other matte I’ve ever tried – normally they dry so fast and clump up and I end up with polish an inch thick to get it even! Not so with Glam Rock, though, and I called it even coverage after 2 coats.
Normally I can admire mattes for only a few minutes before I start itching to add glossy topcoat – but I really actually like this better in matte form. It retained a ton of its shimmer even when matte.
Here it is glossy:

Russian Navy Suede…oh how I love it. It’s matte…but with truckloads of silver shimmer.
As pretty as I think it is, and as much as I like the idea of matte, I do like my nails to be shiny, so I added some Seche, and then it just POPPED. It turned a little darker with the glossy topcoat.
A comparison shot. Ahhhhhhhhhh.
Look at the shimmer!!!
And a closeup, sans topcoat.

I’m such a sucker for grey polish, so I love Loredana! In matte form, without topcoat, it looks exactly like graphite from a pencil. With topcoat…it looks like really sparkly graphite!

Oh wow. Wow.
This is TERRIBLE.
I hate this polish so much. The general opinion on this Orly collection (and Blue Suede in particular) seems to be pretty bad, but I just thought the pictures I’ve seen were so pretty anyway that I had to have it, and it’s been on my wishlist for a while now. It looked like such a pretty, dusty blue, and it is I guess. But…this finish is AWFUL. It’s like I painted my nails with acrylic paint or something.
Big smudge on my ring finger cause I splashed my polish remover and didn’t care enough about this manicure to fix it.
Even Seche can’t save it, it darkens it up several shades and now it’s very close to one of those “might as well be black” polishes that I despise.
After a day of wear I tried to fix it up a bit by adding a coat of Sinful Colors Hottie. It’s much better now. Lucky, because I have no time for a real manicure right now!
It was very gritty, I had to use two coats of Seche on top of Hottie, which will effectively glue the glitter to my nails for the rest of my life.
I like how Hottie contains more than one size/color of glitter, because that creates much more depth than throwing a normal glitter topcoat on top of polish. It looks like it’s sitting on top of the polish, whereas a glitter topcoat like Hottie is much more interesting. However. There’s not a ton of tonal color to it, is there? I thought this would be a good topcoat for blue polish since it looks so blue in the bottle, much like Call You Later is for greens, but it’s just not really all that blue. Drag! Still pretty though.

I layered Slate of Affairs with China Glaze Fairy Dust (the BEST glitter topcoat EVER!!!!) and while that is pretty…it’s awesome matted with Essie Matte About You!

Still struggling mightily with my new lightbox. Sigh.
I think the combination of Sinful Colors Show Me The Way and Call You Later is possibly my favorite…ever. I have so many polishes that I’ve never tried that I usually can’t bear to wear a polish for more than a day, but this…oh this is staying on for another day. I did add a coat of Matte About You, though, and…omg, it’s still gorgeous!! The glitter is so dense, and again – the different colors and sizes of glitter just create so much interest!
Tomorrow will also be my first full test of this matte topcoat – I’ve never actually worn it for a full day before, so it will be interesting to see how it holds up.

Today I will do something that I never really planned on ever doing: swatching a collection just to blog it. But, I happen to have them all, and I haven’t seen anyone else post about them yet, sooooooo…here are the new Diamond Cosmetics mattes!
I also included a picture of each polish with a glossy topcoat and with Essie Matte About You topcoat. I did a rotten job of applying all of these because I was rushing – also my nails and cuticles now hate me. I’m off to moisturize!
Pretty good coverage considering this is a black, but I probably should’ve gone for the third coat now that I look over my pictures. Also, enormous smudge!
This was so streaky! It’s a lovely color but I had to use four coats before I just completely gave up on trying to reach opacity and evenness, and now it just sort of looks dull and dark.
Now this one I like! It’s a pretty purply color. Not streaky like the Burgundy was.
Noooooooot an accurate swatch from the Diamond website at all:
This one’s probably my favorite. I really enjoy grey polishes, and this is a nice shade. The matte finish looks nice in this color also.
The Diamond swatch isn’t anywhere close to true color on this one either.
I’m not real impressed by these. They’re just not very matte. Although these definitely ARE matte polishes, it’s sort of more of a satiny finish. I hope the photos demonstrate that they really just don’t have that complete absence of any shininess, which is what the Essie topcoat has. They weren’t very easy to work with either, verrrry thick, and they didn’t dry as quickly as other mattes I’ve tried. They were all very pretty with the addition of a glossy topcoat though! Worth buying for $2, I think. And yes, even the mattes are only $2, from http://www.diamondcosmetics.com/!

I love love love love this polish! I cannot even love it as much as it deserves. Here’s the Barielle swatch:
Pretty close to the actual color there!
It’s not as dark as I thought it would be from swatches I’d viewed on other blogs – I was sort of expecting it to be one of those daaaaark, almost black polishes, and it is not that at ALL. It is a beautiful bright green in any light, and it shimmers beautifully. I can’t even describe the amount of shimmer in this polish!! Seriously, it’s difficult to pick just one polish as my favorite ever, but I think this might be it.
It’s also GORGEOUS matte-ified! Ahhhhhhh, so much shimmer…
This one’s mislabelled – of course I’m wearing my beloved Seche on the glossy hand.
Next up – the Diamond Cosmetics mattes!

…Weird? Why does China Glaze insist that this is a neon? What’s more, why does it dry matte, as neons do, and yet it’s…not actually neon? I mean, it’s a fairly bright blue, but in no way would I call this neon.
It’s got…large shimmer. Almost a glitter. But, the glitter doesn’t sparkle through the polish, it just sort of sits underneath, barely visible, and gives it a slight bumpy texture. No topcoat here:
Well this was definitely meant to be worn with a topcoat. The glitter sparkles very nicely with a topcoat, but without it just sort of sits under the polish, with no sparkle at all.

I reallllly like Sally Hansen Gunmetal when it’s shiny, but it’s also pretty awesome matte-ified! This might be my favorite polish so far that I’ve tried with my Essie Matte About You topcoat. Metallics are great to matte-ify.
